President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has suggested creating a new strategy for the development of the CIS during Kazakhstan’s chairmanship, Tengrinews reports.

“As you have all agreed, the chairmanship passes down to Kazakhstan. We will support continuity of the work," Nazarbayev promised.

"What about discussing with the heads of the states and agreeing on a new concept of CIS development, of how we are are going to proceed? We could prepare this document for the 25th anniversary of the CIS. Kazakhstan will be working on it and turning to you for advice,” Nazarbayev said during the meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the CIS in Minsk, Belarus.

He added that the countries would continue developing their trade-and-economic relations and the free trade zone. During its chairmanship Kazakhstan would focus on developing co-operation in transit and transportation, agriculture, food supply security and humanitarian affairs.

“I think that our work will be balanced and we will be consulting with you,” Nazarbayev said.

The next meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the CIS is scheduled to the fourth quarter of the 2015.
