Nursultan Nazarbayev met with Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova on the sidelines of the 4th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Nursultan Nazarbayev’s press-service. “We have been actively cooperating with UNESCO starting from the first days of our independence. I have personally known all the heads of your organization. All our initiatives have been always understood and supported by UNESCO, so we can say that our cooperation has reached a good level. Founded after the World War II, UNESCO, above all, has played an important role in unification of the researches in the world’s culture. Your organization performs a special civilization-wide mission. We understand and support it. Participation of UNESCO in the forum is highly important and increases the prestige of the Congress,” the press-service cites Nazarbayev. Irina Bokova stressed that the Congress that includes discussion of important inter-religious and spiritual issues became an integral part of the international calendar. “I would like to congratulate you on the successful holding of the Congress. Kazakhstan is an important partner for us and my first visit to Astana coincides with the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s accession into UNESCO.
