Nursultan Nazarbayev has thanked the former President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso for his significant contribution into strengthening of relations between Kazakhstan and the European Union, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of Akorda.
During the meeting the Kazakh President awarded Jose Manuel Barroso with the Order Dostyk of I degree for his contribution into strengthening peace, friendship and cooperation among nations.
“During your presidency in the European Commission, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and the European Union has increased tenfold. With your active assistance and friendly help we signed a document on completion of negotiations on the draft Agreement Extending the Partnership and Cooperation of Kazakhstan and the EU. The European Union is our major trading partner,” the President of Kazakhstan said.
In turn, Barroso thanked Nursultan Nazarbayev for the appreciation of his work and expressed hope for further deepening and expansion of partnership between Kazakhstan and the EU.
“As President of the European Commission, I made all the necessary efforts to maintain close cooperation between the EU and Kazakhstan, and I am very proud of the contribution that I made. Your personal involvement was also very important in building these relations,” he said.
