President Nursultan Nazarbayev predicts painful reforms in the government, Tengrinews report.

“(We aim) to create a professional government machine serving the people without corruption. The main goal is the maintenance of meritocracy: only the worthy, the knowledgeable and the experienced become suitable candidates. The second goal is ensuring the rule of law. After all, we have the legacy of the Soviet justice system. We cannot say that we have the absolute rule of law, because we still have a lot of painful reforms to accomplish. I am well aware of the work we need to do,” Nazarbayev said during the Akorda conference on April 27.

Meanwhile, according to the President, there is no need to change the country’s domestic and foreign policies, but there is a need for a greater transparency so that people can see that state officials are promoted for talent and earn their positions, he said.

President Nazarbayev called for an independent government, not timeserving and not opportunist, consisting of people who serve. “That is where we will make changes. As for other things, we will continue to work in the same way we have been working,” Nazarbayev concluded.

Nursultan Nazarbayev gathered 97.75% votes in the early presidential elections on April 26 in Kazakhstan.

At the ceremony of announcing Nazarbayev's overwhelming victory, the President promised to work with renewed vigor and make Kazakhstan one of the 30 most developed countries in the world.
