Zhanaozen clashes were discussed during negotiations between Kazakhstan President and German Chancellor, Tengrinews.kz reports from Berlin. Angela Merkel told the journalists about her confidence that the investigation will unveil all the circumstances of the events. “You are perhaps interested in what happened in Zhanaozen. Imagine a small 100-thousand German town where people go out to peacefully express their economic requests to the employers. The celebration of 20th anniversary of the country is in process and people go on the main square. This very time tens of specially trained young people, mostly drunk, burst into the square and start beating up people, children, throwing microphones and knocking our policemen, while there were very few of the latter. What would German government do? Most probably, it would protect civilians. That’s what we did. I went there. Of course, it is a tragedy that people died. I went there to express my condolences,” Nursultan Nazarbayev told German media at the press-conference after negotiations with Angela Merkel. “A special commission has been formed up, our prosecutors are working and we have invited Western experts to openly investigate everything and tell everyone what happened there. I promise that it will be this way,” the President stated. Kazakhstan President also commented on the results of the past Parliamentary elections and the critics of the elections by several international organizations. “The representatives of the U.S., Great Britain and France noted that the elections were transparent and honest. But there is one other human rights organization in Paris. When Kazakhstan chaired the OSCE in 2010, I couldn’t find who created this organization and who selected its members. We did not elect it. We ignore opinions of such organizations that work on someones orders,” he said. German Chancellor expressed readiness to support Kazakhstan not only in its relations with Germany, but with the European Union in general. By Renat Tashkinbayev
