Nazarbayev discussed EU agreement with European politicians

Kazakhstan is in talks with the European Union on signing of a new agreement on development of trade and economic cooperation, Tnegrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev as saying at the meeting with members of the International Consultation Council in Astana. “Next year we are focusing on infrastructure issues in Kazakhstan’s development. Meanwhile, we are negotiating with the European Union on signing of a new agreement on development of trade and economic relations and it is important for use to hear your opinion on this issue, as well as your evaluation of the events in Europe,” the President said at the meeting. The opinions exchange and mutual consultations are held regularly in the International Consultation Council. The Council is made of former President of Poland Aleksander Kwasniewski, former federal chancellor of Austria Alfred Gusenbauer, former chairman of the European Commission and ex-Prime-Minister of Italy Romano Prodi. “We continued the discussion that was started in Vienna several months ago, we spoke about the European Union and the situation in Europe in general, from political and economic point of view, in particular. We also discussed cooperation of Kazakhstan with the European Union, development of the new agreement is very important for Europe and Kazakhstan. I would like to stress the significance of the Kazakhstan-2050 strategic development plan. We view it as a historical documents that outlines the vision of development of the country and the community within the following years,” Kwasniewski said. Ex-Prime-Minister of Italy Romano Prodi stressed that the participants of the meeting had analyzed the situation in the global economy and politics and worked out several ways to activate the economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union. Kazakhstan President’s International Consultation Council was established in 2010. It includes prominent public and political persons of Europe.
