Nazarbayev and Putin declared their preparedness to take the relations to a new level, Tengrinews.kz reports from the presidents’ meeting in Kazakhstan President’s residence. “We have to take the bilateral relations to a new quality level. We view Russia as an important political and economic partner. Both our countries are like locomotives of integration. We have to prove to everyone the profitability and the necessity of this process. We currently stand at the point where we have to take these relations to a new quality level,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said after congratulating his Russian colleague on his inauguration. Vladimir Putin thanked Kazakhstan leader and stated that a medium-term plan of development of bilateral relations had to be prepared. “We will be signing a range of documents today; they will become a basis for development of our relations and complement the existing documents. I suppose that we have to issue instruction for the preparation of the plan for the next two years to begin,” Vladimir Putin said. Russia’s President listed priorities of the cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan. “It is not only energy, even though our energy industry is quite diversified. It is high-tech processing and engineering we are talking about. There are good projects here like exploration of space and a joint use of Baikonur,” Russian President said. “I would like to assure you once again that Russia is going to consistently follow all our agreements. I rely on it and I’m sure that our today’s meeting will be beneficial for development of our relations,” Vladimir Putin told Nursultan Nazarbayev during the extended meeting. The documents to be signed at the meeting included agreements on cooperation in space and energy (both fuel and nuclear) and development of north Caspian fields. Agreement on the rules of stay of Kazakhstan and Russian citizens at the territory of both countries and crossing of the state border by the citizens of near-border territories were signed as well.
