President Nursultan Nazarbayev has met with the participants of the 37th meeting of the Council of Leaders of CIS Security and Special Services, Tengrinews reports citing the Akorda press office.

President Nursultan Nazarbayev has met with the participants of the 37th meeting of the Council of Leaders of CIS Security and Special Services, Tengrinews reports citing the Akorda press office.

The participants of the meeting discussed strengthening cooperation between security and special services in the CIS to combat terrorism and extremism.

“We see new challenges and activation of terrorist organizations. In these circumstances coordination of work of the national security and special services is extremely important,” Nazarbayev said.

In particular, Nazarbayev noted growing concerns over security in the wake of the Customs Union.

“With transparent borders, offenders can travel across countries easily. Your cooperative work and sharing useful information is of great significance to address this problem,” the President added.

According to Nazarbayev, protection of rights of citizens and maintenance of social and economic development create a firm foundation for security and stability.

“At the moment we all sense the impending challenges connected with the difficulties in the world economy and the situation in Ukraine. In this regard, the governments have to take measures within their respective countries. The countries should increases internal investments. As a part of the industrial and innovative development in Kazakhstan, over 800 new enterprises were opened in 5 years creating a great number of jobs. All of this creates favorable economic conditions and decreases the country’s dependence on oil, gas and other natural resources. In the following five years our country will focus on the innovative development,” the President of Kazakhstan explained.

Moreover, Kazakhstan will focus on the development of infrastructure.

“The territory of our country is vast, that is why we pay special attention to infrastructure and construction of highways, railways, bridges and passes. Specifically, it is planned to construct thousands of kilometers of roads from Astana in all directions. It would create new jobs and propel the economic development,” Nazarbayev concluded.
