President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has urged the people of Kazakhstan to protect interethnic accord and solidarity, Tengrinews reports.
“Interethnic harmony is like a life-giving oxygen. We do not notice it when we breathe: we make it automatically and we live. But the air is poisoned, we feel this immediately. We must protect our unity and interethnic accord. No one from the outside will come and do it for us. You see what happens when someone outside interferes,” the President of Kazakhstan said in his annual State of the Nation Address at a meeting of the political council of the ruling Nur Otan party on Tuesday, November 11.
To pass a global test for maturity, the people of Kazakhstan need to be united, he continued. “We must strengthen the trust between all the Kazakhstan people and be tolerant to each other as we always have been. These are the keys to the future of our country,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
He emphasized that today’s Kazakhstan youth was growing up into a new independent country. These are the children that have never faced interethnic wars and clashes, conflicts and chaos in the 1990s. “Many of them take stability and comfortable life in Kazakhstan for granted as something posited by birth,” the Kazakh President said.
“What is stability and harmony? This is family well-being, safety and a place to live in for an ordinary man. Peace is joy of fatherhood, motherhood, parents' health, happiness of children. Peace is a stable job, salary, confidence in the future. Peace is stability and public legacy that has to be protected and strengthened everyday work,” the President said.
He emphasized that young people had to continue the tradition of ethnic harmony in Kazakhstan. "The government has opened all the doors for education and work to the young people. Nurly Zhol (a new economic policy) is where our youth can be creative and dynamic and where everyone can find a place," he said.
This unexpected State of the Nation Address was quite a surprise given the fact that it is the second Address this year. Previously, the President used to address the nation in January-February. And this year as well, he addressed the nation on January 17, 2014.
Nursultan Nazarbayev explained why he decided to deliver his annual State of the Nation Address earlier. It is because Kazakhstan faces many challenges that the country and its people should focus on now, including the sanctions reciprocation between Russia and the West, the ongoing events in the Middle East and the still existing repercussions of 2007-2008 global financial crisis.
“We must take action in order to justify the confidence of the people and get out of this situation unharmed. The coming years will not be very easy for our country. For this reason, I want to focus this address on what should be done before the year’s end now, in advance. To allow time for this, I am addressing the people at the end of the year," President Nazarbayev said.
