Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev within the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Astana met his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovich May 29, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the President’s official website. “You have accepted my invitation and come to Kazakhstan to be more fully aware of the work carried out within the Customs Union (…) At the early stage of the Customs Union, the trade turnover among the member states has grown 30-40%. Bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Ukraine have been also developing rampantly. Last year the bilateral trade turnover grew by 24%, we need to sustain the level. We can secure more tangible results if we apply the current Road Map”, Nazarbayev said. “We know the Customs Union is mostly based on your ideas and suggestions voiced well before the global financial crisis. We fully understand that economic growth is only possible through concerted efforts, introduction of innovations, modernization of industrial production, and growth of high value-added production output. Competition gets more compelling with the circle of partners growing”, Mr. Yanukovich is quoted as saying.
