Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev has met Canada’s Foreign Minister John Baird, Tengrinews reports, citing the President’s Press Service. President highlighted the great contribution of the visit to developing the bilateral ties between the two nations. “Since gaining independence [from the Soviet Union back in 1991] Kazakhstan has been interested in boosting bilateral ties (…) notably, we have enjoyed a dynamic cooperation in agriculture”, President Nazarbayev said. In his turn, Minister John Baird expressed his gratitude for the reception and stressed Canada was looking forward to signing an agreement on peaceful use of nuclear power. “I believe the agreement will be a major pillar for the bilateral relations (…) we have a positive experience of cooperation in agriculture, including introduction of new technology. Canada is interested in furthering the trade and economic ties with Kazakhstan. The Canadian side is attaching great importance to political and diplomatic interaction”, the President’s Press Service quotes him as saying. Among other things, the Minister expressed his admiration for Astana, the country’s capital city, saying the city is a bright achievement and a legacy for the generations to come.
