President of Finland Sauli Niinisto arrived on a state visit to Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports. Sauli Niinisto is accompanied by his wife. “This is your first state visit to our country. The history of our countries is very similar. You started your independent path a little earlier than us and your starting period was quite similar to ours. Your visit is very important and we will do our best to make it successful,” Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan said during the bilateral meeting. “Indeed, our countries have much in common, including the history. Yesterday your Foreign Minister reminded that we were practically neighbors and there was only one country between us,” the President of Finland said. The talks between Kazakhstan and Finland Presidents were held in Akorda, the presidential residence in Astana. “In the private meeting we discussed all aspects of cooperation and came to the common opinion that the development potential is not used to its fullest. We consider Finland one of our major trade and economic partners in Europe and want to fully unleash the cooperation potential,” Nazarbayev said during the expanded meeting. He noted that Kazakhstan had many directions of possible cooperation that could be of interest for Finland and said that Finland was of great interest to Kazakhstan. “The recent high-level contacts promoted the Finnish business to expand its presence at the Kazakhstan market,” Nazarbayev said. According to him, there are currently over 70 companies with Finnish capital working in different sectors in Kazakhstan and they can become a basis for further development of the relations between the two countries. The President of Finland thanked Nazarbayev for the warm welcome and said that Finland “remembered Kazakhstan President’s visit very well”. The commodities turnover between Kazakhstan and Finland made $776.4 million in 2012. The total volume of Finnish investments into Kazakhstan economy equaled to $150 million as of September 2012.
