The Ministry of Environment Protection of Kazakhstan has been renamed and got several new functions, Tengrinews reports. Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev has signed the decree transforming the Ministry of Environment Protection of Kazakhstan into the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources of Kazakhstan today, according to the President's official website. The decree on Further Improvement of the State Administration System of Kazakhstan is aimed at reorganizing the Ministry. Besides its current functions the new ministry - the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources of Kazakhstan - will be made responsible for "supply of water to the end users and hydro-melioration of agricultural lands". These functions will be transferred to it from the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan. And it will relieve the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Kazakhstan from its current responsibility for "rational use of groundwater, except for groundwater-related geological exploration projects".
