Kazakhstan is going to run for membership in the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 2013, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov after the meeting with Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova who arrived in Kazakhstan with her first official visit. The Foreign Ministry’s press-service reminds that Kazakhstan is currently a member of the Executive Board and Inter-Government Councils of the Information for All and Communications Development international programs and the chairman of the Committee on Conventions and Recommendations. Kazakhstan is to further support international efforts on ensuring a comprehensive access to high-quality education, development of the peoples’ culture, communication technologies and use of achievements of the scientific progress by all countries. Bokova highly evaluated the activities of Kazakhstan’s national commission on UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and ISESCO (Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and the country’s initiative to promote the resolution of the UNESCO General Conference of November 2011 on Proclamation of the International Decade for Rapprochement of Cultures in 2013-2022 cosponsored by 27 UNSECO member-states.
