Prep works to sign the Agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union were discussed in Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing President Nazarbayev’s Press Service.
“We’ve been going towards economic integration for two decades. A lot of work has been done. The time has come to see the Agreement to start working for the good of the nations involved. Kazakhstan is expected to greatly benefit from this long-term agreement. The Agreement offers abundant economic gains for Kazakhstan. Notably, our nation is a land-locked one; the member states will provide us with boss an access to seas and their respective transport infrastructure”, President said May 27 at a sitting prior to meeting Heads of the other member states.
“Kazakhstan-made products will have to compete in markets of Russia and Belarus. Free movement of Kazakhstan’s goods, capital, workforce, launching of joint ventures, and expanding of contracts already in place will bring certain benefits for Kazakhstan”, Nazarbayev said.
“The to-be-launched Union provides ample economic opportunities to support stable development of Kazakhstan amidst the turbulent global economy. The Agreement allows to pursue a multi-vector policy. Apart from joining the Union, we seek to be a member state of the WTO and strive for signing agreements with other international entities”, the country’s PM Karim Massimov said in his report.
First Vice PM Bakyt Saginatayev elaborated that “non-economic provisions were all removed from the draft agreement. During the talks the Kazakh side defended inadmissibility of any efforts to politicize the Union”, Mr. Sagintayev said.
Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrissov emphasized the Agreement is based on respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, specific polity of each member state and calls for consensus in decision-making.
“The Union’s bodies will comprise equal number of representatives of each of the member states. It is of great importance that the Agreement does not exclude signing other international agreements”, Minister Idrissov said.
