Kazakhstan plans activities to enter WTO

Kazakhstan has planned out its activities on entering the WTO for 2012, Tengrinews.kz reports. An extended board meeting was held in the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade on January 31. “We have completed bilateral negotiations with 27 countries so far. Of course, the most important is that we have managed to finish negotiations with the U.S. and EU that are both traditionally the key for all the other countries and significantly affect the positions of other partner-countries,” Vice-Minister of Economic Development and Trade stated. According to Timur Suleimenov, the Ministry and the WTO Secretariat have developed a “roadmap” for Kazakhstan’s entry into the Organization that envisages completion of all the processes and procedures by the end of 2012. “We will finish all the bilateral negotiations within the first quarter. In the second quarter we will finish working on correction of the rates and obligations, considering Russia’s WTO Agency. All the multilateral negotiations of the work group will be completed and the final version of the work group’s report will be prepared by November. In the fourth quarter of 2012 we plan to contact the WTO Ministry Conference that will officially confirm our membership in this organization,” Vice-Minister said. The Minister noted that the activities of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade in 2012 would be focused on the main directions: ensuring economic sustainability and planned growth rate of the economy, economic integration, implementation of entrepreneurship development policy, trade policy and administrative reform. Regional police will become one of the main priorities in the Ministry’s work. In the first 6 months of the year the Ministry will develop a program for development of agglomerations and single-industry towns aimed for diversification of the economies of Astana, Almaty, Aktobe, Aktau, Shymkent through active development of small and medium-sized business, increase of labor mobility.
