The list of countries whose citizens will be able to enter Kazakhstan without a visa is going to be extended, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Vice Foreign Minister Rapil Zhoshybayev as quoted by Newskaz.ru.
June 12, when speaking at the sitting of the Foreign Investors’ Council, Kazakhstan’s President announced introduction of a visa-free regime for citizens of 10 nations that have been actively investing into the Kazakhstan’s economy. The list of countries includes the USA, the Netherlands, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, the UAE, South Korea, Japan. The visa-free regime is to be introduced as a pilot project from July 15, 2014 to July 15, 2015.
“We are thinking of expanding the list once the pilot project is over”, according to Mr. Zhoshybayev.
He promised the Foreign Ministry would report on the number of foreign citizens entering Kazakhstan and the number of JVs to be opened for the period. “We want to stimulate small and middle-sized business and foster investments into the sector”, he elaborated.
“Should we look at the statistics, budget revenues from issuing visas slightly exceeds $4 million (…) Should we count the spendings foreign visitors will incur while in Kazakhstan, the figure will be much greater than that charged for issuing visas”, he said.
Citizens of the mentioned above 10 countries holding diplomatic, business and regular national passports will be eligible for multiple entry to Kazakhstan visa-free for periods of up to 15 calendar days following the day of crossing the border. Should there be a sound reason to prolong the sojourn, the foreign citizens are supposed to apply for business visas to the Interior Ministry and for investor visas to the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan.
