Tengrinews.kz — Kazakhstan has joined the Peace Council without making a billion-dollar financial contribution. This was confirmed to Tengrinews.kz by the press service of Akorda.

According to Akorda, membership in the Peace Council requires only a sovereign decision by the state. Once a country joins, its standard term of membership lasts three years.

The press service clarified that the voluntary contribution of $1 billion mentioned in the Council’s charter is not a condition for membership. Making such a contribution is a right, not an obligation, for participating states. If a country chooses to make this contribution within the first year, it gains the option to extend its membership in the Peace Council beyond the initial three-year term.

“Kazakhstan joined the Peace Council without making any financial contribution, fully in line with the provisions of the Charter,” Akorda emphasized.

The Peace Council is an intergovernmental organization whose creation was initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump. On January 22 in Davos, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the Council’s charter. Leaders and representatives from 18 countries took part in the signing ceremony.
