Kazakhstan has perfect conditions for oil transit from Russian Transneft to China, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Managing Director of Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund Malik Salimgereyev as saying at yesterday's briefing in Astana. “I think that Russians just don’t want to go to China. Kazakhstan has created perfect conditions for them. It will be profitable for us if they go through our territory, especially if they go to China. We can get some markup in this corridor, i.e. when they transit oil we will have more profits and taxes. It would be profitable for us if they go to China. And if they go, this will begin a positive tend for us,” Salimgereyev said commenting the statement of head of Transneft who said it was unfeasible to transport Russian oil to China via Kazakhstan. Earlier head of Transneft Nikolay Tokarev talked about unfeasibility of the offer to transport Russian oil, in particular, the one of Rosneft, to Chine via Kazakhstan's oil pipeline system Atasu-Alashankow. According to him, the company would be losing $1.5 billion. “We do not have any principal objections. This is more of a political issue. This is related to the fact that Russians, perhaps, do not want to go to China via Kazakhstan. We have created all the conditions for them to use this pipeline, if they want,” Kazakhstan's Managing Director said. This August Transneft hailed the decision of Kazakhstan-Chinese pipeline to lower the transit rate for Russian oil supplied to China as dumping. On August 17 it was announced that Atasy-Alashankou oil pipeline is lowering the rates for pumping down to $11.3 per ton per 1,000km.
