Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has appointed Zhaslan Madiev as Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, Akorda reported.
Madiev previously served as Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry.
Born in Almaty in 1983, he graduated from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Columbia University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
From 2019 to 2020, Madiev served as Vice Minister of National Economy, and from 2020 to 2022 as Deputy Chairman of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms.
He was First Vice Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry in early 2022 before briefly leaving the public sector to head Binance Kazakhstan. On May 6, 2024, he returned to government as minister of digital development.
On September 18, Tokayev signed a decree reorganizing the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry into the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development. Part of the ministry’s former responsibilities, including innovation policy, were transferred to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
Earlier, in his September 8 State of the Nation Address, Tokayev urged the accelerated adoption of the Digital Code and announced plans to establish a dedicated ministry for artificial intelligence and digital development.
