Tengrinews.kz – The Presidents of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan have signed a strategic agreement to integrate the energy systems of the three nations.
The signing took place during the COP 29 World Climate Summit, where Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Ilham Aliyev, and Shavkat Mirziyoyev formalized a partnership to produce and transmit green energy among their countries.
President Tokayev emphasized that this agreement marks a significant step in trilateral cooperation and regional integration.
“This agreement paves the way for new opportunities to integrate our energy systems and create reliable green energy corridors to European and other markets. Kazakhstan’s role as a major transit hub is crucial. This initiative will enhance the Middle Corridor as a 'green bridge' connecting our economies while advancing energy security and sharing technology,” Tokayev said.
Tokayev also highlighted Kazakhstan’s commitment to carbon neutrality and green energy as a priority. He noted ongoing agreements with international partners to implement green projects with a total capacity of 43 GW.
President Aliyev stated that the agreement elevates the fraternal relations between the three countries to a new strategic level.
“Central Asia and the Caucasus are synchronizing efforts in green energy development. We are aware of the ambitious plans and achievements in renewable energy in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan,” said Aliyev.
President Mirziyoyev underscored the agreement’s broader significance.
“This project is not just economic but also an important environmental contribution. The green energy generated will mitigate climate impact and support our shared climate goals under the Paris Agreement,” said Mirziyoyev.
In the presence of the Presidents, Energy Ministers from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Saudi Arabia signed an executive program for cooperation in green energy development and transmission.
