Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan and Switzerland have agreed to provide mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and recover illegally transferred assets, according to the General Prosecutor’s Office of Kazakhstan.
On November 5, during a visit to Bern, Kazakhstan’s General Prosecutor Berik Asylov held talks with his Swiss counterpart Stefan Blattler and Deputy Director of the Swiss Federal Office of Justice Laurence Fontana Jungo.
The discussions focused on enhancing international cooperation in criminal cases and improving mechanisms for asset recovery. Asylov noted that since 2022, Kazakhstan has recovered over $3.5 billion.
“General Prosecutor Blättler and Deputy Director Fontana Jungo affirmed their commitment to assisting Kazakhstan in recovering illegally transferred assets and strengthening international collaboration,” the statement read.
Swiss justice officials also supported Kazakhstan's efforts to join the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters.
The visit concluded with the signing of an intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding to expedite and simplify procedures for evidence and information exchange in criminal cases, including asset recovery.
