Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan has reached an agreement for the extradition of criminals with another country, according to the Prosecutor General's Office.
On October 23, treaties were signed in Astana between Kazakhstan and Peru regarding mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, extradition, and the transfer of convicted persons.
"The treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters aims to facilitate cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries in providing evidence of the guilt of suspects in committing crimes. The extradition treaty will allow the parties to extradite individuals who have committed crimes in one country and are hiding in the other from criminal prosecution and justice. The treaty on the transfer of convicted persons regulates the procedure for transferring citizens of the parties who have been sentenced to imprisonment in a foreign state and wish to serve their sentence in their homeland," the statement said.
It is noted that for Kazakhstan, Peru has become another Latin American country with which a comprehensive international treaty framework in the field of criminal proceedings has been established.
Previously, similar international agreements were concluded with Brazil. In the near future, similar documents are planned to be signed with Argentina and the Dominican Republic.
"The necessity of these agreements is due to the fact that recently, individuals wanted by the authorities have frequently been hiding from Kazakh law enforcement agencies in Latin American countries, such as Brazil, Ecuador, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, and other nations on that continent," the General Prosecutor's Office reported.
