Kazakhstan Senate Speaker Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev has taken part in the Munich Security Conference, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of the Senate, an upper chamber of the Kazakh Parliament.

Kazakhstan Senate Speaker Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev has taken part in the Munich Security Conference, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of the Senate, an upper chamber of the Kazakh Parliament. 

The Munich Security Conference is an annual conference on international security policy, the largest one of its kind. First organized in 1963, the Conference has evolved into an independent forum pursuing peaceful conflict resolution, dialogue and international cooperation.

Each year, the conference brings together around 350 experts including the leading politicians, diplomats, public figures from more than 70 countries around the world to exchange the views and to engage in an intensive debate on the most challenging security issues, both current and future.

The 51st Munich Security Conference started on February 6 and lasted three days. This time the forum’s main topics were settlement of the Ukrainian crisis and combatting the Islamic State (ISIS).

Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev was working in the group of experts that was engaged in developing innovative suggestions in diplomacy and international relations. 

General Secretary of the NATO Jens Stoltenberg, defense ministers of France and the United Kingdom, top representatives of the United States, China and other countries delivered their speeches.

The conference was also attended by the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, the Secretary General of Amnesty International Salil Shetty, the Executive Director of Human Rights Watch Kenneth Roth, the Executive Director of Greenpeace Kumi Naidoo.
