Kazakhstan’s Senators are expected to visit the United States, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the Senate’s Press Service. “May 6-7 a delegation of Kazakhstan’s Senators chaired by the Senate’s Vice President Alexander Sudyin will pay a working visit to Washington and New York”, the statement reads. The visit is to strengthen the inter-parliamentary ties and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Congress of World Religions launched by President Nazarbayev back in 2003. “During the visit Kazakh Senators Alexander Sydyin, Serik Akylbai and Khussain Valiyev will be meeting US parliamentarians and reps of the U.S. State Department. In Washington they will unveil a photo exhibition to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Congress of World Religions. Besides, they will be meeting with religion leaders and H.E. Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations”, according to the Press Service. The Congress of Leaders of World & Traditional Religions has been Kazakhstan’s contribution to the global process of inter-cultural dialogue. It justifiably occupies a special place in the efforts made by the world community towards strengthening principles of tolerance, mutual understanding, dialogue and cooperation. Bringing together Muslims and Christians, Jews and Buddhists, as well as representatives of Hinduism, Shintoism, and Zoroastrianism, the 4th Congress saw over 350 delegates from 40 countries discussing some of the most pressing global issues in May 2012.
