Tengrinews.kz - Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu.

The meeting discussed the prospects for Kazakhstan's cooperation with the UN on security, disarmament, and the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted the exceptional role of the UN in solving urgent problems and emphasized its non-alternative nature.

"We maintain a principled stance on disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Given the current global events, this is particularly relevant. Tomorrow we observe the International Day against Nuclear Tests to remind of the risks associated with nuclear tests and weapons. Kazakhstan is committed to cooperating with the UN, viewing it as an universal international structure," said the President.

Izumi Nakamitsu highly praised Kazakhstan's leadership in the global nuclear non-proliferation process and its growing role as a middle power.

The participants also exchanged views on current international agenda issues.

Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the Akorda residence to discuss strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Nations.
