Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov called Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan to meet more often, Tengrinews.kz reported from the Nazarbayev’s residence where the meeting of the presidents of the two countries was held. “I think that we are losing much time, while it is possible. We need to meet more often and exchange our opinions on the issues that are mounting and becoming more difficult to solve, rather than when they just arise. We should consider the rapidly changing situation in Central Asia that is not always of interest to the world’s major countries although it is clearly visible, the rising tensions and counteraction amid the coming withdrawal of peacekeeping forces from Afghanistan, and work on development of common approaches of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan aimed at maintaining and enhancing stability, prosperity and peaceful life of people in general. Our decisions a especially important these days,” Karimov said at the extended meeting with President Nazarbayev. “I am confident that not only presidents of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan share this opinion; I’m sure that heads of the neighboring countries have similar thoughts. The situation in the region and adjacent parts of the world is becoming complicated and it preconditions the common need to enhance effective and convincing measures of countering new challenges and threats, first of all those coming from terrorism, extremism and aggressive drug trafficking,” Karimov added. Islam Karimov arrived in Astana on September 6. He was met in the airport by Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev personally. By Renat Tashkinbayev
