ISIL declares 'caliphate' as Iraq presses counter-offensive
The ISIL jihadists whose sweeping Sunni militant offensive has captured swathes of Iraq have declared an "Islamic caliphate" in their territory as Iraqi forces battle to retake Saddam Hussein's hometown Tikrit, AFP reports.
