The fifth session of the Assembly of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is being held in Abu Dhabi. Headed by the Minister of Energy Vladimir Shkolnik, governmental delegation from Kazakhstan is participating in the event, Tengrinews reports citing BNews.kz.
CEO Asset Magauov is representing KAZENERGY, an association of oil, gas and energy sector organizations, in Abu Dhabi. During his visit, Director-General of IRENA Adnan Z. Amin and he signed a memorandum of cooperation between KAZENERGY and IRENA.
The purpose of this document is to provide a common framework for cooperation in preparing Kazakhstan for the EXPO-2017. The exhibition to be held in Astana is themed "Future Energy." So the document outlines policy development and promotion of innovative mechanisms for energy efficiency in Kazakhstan, energy supply (planning and development forecasts), and analysis of technologies and development roadmaps. Also, the memorandum envisions joint research projects and activities, exchange of knowledge and experience in the energy sector and the use of renewable energy sources.
"Speaking to reporters in Abu Dhabi, Asset Magauov noted that employing renewable energy sources would be a rewarding experience for Kazakhstan, since the measures that Kazakhstan was putting in place to support the sector were very significant. In addition, these technologies do not stand still and experts predict that within 10 years these energy sources will be able to compete with traditional ones," the statement said.
Moreover, Vladimir Shkolnik and Magauov held meetings with the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Yoichi Miyazawa, Minister of Energy of the Comoros Islands Abdou Nassur Madi and Shamshad Akhtar, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
Upon completion of the 5th Session of the Assembly, the opening of the week on sustainable development was conducted. Several events happened within its framework: the 8th World Future Energy Summit 2015 (WFES), the International Water Summit (IWS) and the 2nd International Exhibition on waste management and utilization EcoWASTE.
The events ended with a joint final session of the World Future Energy Summit and International Water Summit.
