Tengrinews.kz - Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran's Vice President for Strategic Affairs, has announced his resignation.

Zarif expressed regret that, during his tenure leading the advisory council on forming the new cabinet, he was unable to secure expert approval from committees concerning women, youth, and ethnic minorities.

"I am dissatisfied with the results of my work and feel ashamed that I could not achieve the expert opinions and representation for women, youth, and ethnic minorities as promised. There are still vice presidents who, hopefully, will address this shortcoming. This was my first experience in this role, and it was fraught with shortcomings that will certainly be improved in the future. However, alongside other issues, it has prompted me to return to my work at the university. I apologize to Iran for my inability to manage internal political affairs," Zarif wrote on August 11.

On May 19, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi tragically died in a plane crash. Following the elections held afterward, Masoud Pezeshkian, a reformist politician and heart surgeon, won the presidency.

Pezeshkian appointed Mohammad Javad Zarif as Vice President for Strategic Affairs on August 2.
