The final decision of France to extradite the former head of BTA Bank Mukhtar Ablyazov to Russia is expected in 2015, Tengrinews reports citing RIA Novosti.

The information was presented by the Prosecutor General of Russia Yuri Chaika in an interview to RG.RU. He said that after hearing the representatives of the Russian Prosecutor's Office twice in 2014, the French courts confirmed twice the legitimacy of Russia's requests of extradition of Mukhtar Ablyazov and former Finance Minister of Moscow Region Alexei Kuznetsov.

"These people (Mukhtar Ablyazov and Alexei Kuznetsov) have remained in custody in France for a year and a half at our request. The final decisions on their cases are expected this year," Chaika said.

On October 24, 2014, the court in France granted Moscow’s extradition request on fugitive Kazakh tycoon Mukhtar Ablyazov, who was arrested in Nice in 2013.

Russian authorities accuse Mukhtar Ablyazov of embezzling $5 bln at the time he was at the helm of BTA Bank.

The man is also wanted in his native Kazakhstan, with which France does not have an extradition agreement. The Central Asian country accused Ablyazov of embezzlement and theft of more than $6 bln from BTA Bank. He is facing up to 13 years imprisonment with confiscation of property in Kazakhstan.

Alexei Kuznetsov is accused of embezzling funds of Russian Gazprombank company and purchasing properties in London, New York and Courchevel with them. The damages are estimated at $163 million.
