Eurasian integration is a conscious choice made by Kazakhstan, President Nazarbayev said when speaking at an extended sitting of the country’s Foreign Ministry April 20, Newskaz.ru reports. “Kazakhstan acts as the advocate of the Eurasian Economic Union … as a landlocked nation we have to tap into the markets of neighboring nations. Without these endeavors, our intention to expand the national economy and launch new enterprises will be doomed”, he said. At the same time, “with the Eurasian Economic Union in place, Kazakhstan will keep on pursuing its course towards balanced relations with other nations as well”. In a separate statement he emphasized that given the Eurozone crisis, the Asian-Pacific region is growing more important. “The global economy is being redefined, with economy growth centers shifting [towards Asian-Pacific region]”, he said.
