Nursultan Nazarbayev warned of the coming difficult decades at the meeting timed to the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence on December 15 in Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports. “The world will face a new technological revolution in the coming 10-15 years. This is the main challenge of this century. Radical changes will define the foundation of the new economic world order. The world is on the edge of a global depression. Direct losses of the global economy are estimated to make trillions of dollars. One renowned economist said that the losses of the last financial crisis were equal to the losses of all the world wars. No country will be able to remain a safe harbor in the roaring sea of the global cataclysms. This is seen in Europe and other countries,” Nursultan Nazarbayev called Kazakhstan residents to be ready for everything. “I have to say that times ahead of us are not going to be simple. The world in the 21st century is not free from threats of famine, diseases, deficit of fresh water and fertile lands. This is a reality for the regions with fast-growing population. This is true for our country as well. I am talking about details because the coming decades will be difficult for the whole world. We have to be prepared for any difficulties,” the President told the audience. The official meeting timed to the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence was held in the Independence Palace in Astana on December 15. The presidium of the meeting was chaired was Nursultan Nazarbayev. He was accompanied by Prime-Minister Karim Massimov, first head of the Cabinet Sergei Tereschenko, Senate speaker Kairat Mami, senator Mukhtar Altynbayev, Head Mufti and Orthodox Metropolitan, astronauts Toktar Aubakirov and Talgat Mussabayev, actor Assanali Ashimov, singer Bibigul Tulegenova, Olympics champion Ilya Ilyin and other Kazakhstan residents who contributed to development of the independent Kazakhstan. On December 16, 1991, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed the Constitutional Law On state independence of Kazakhstan. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Kazakhstan was the last to announce its sovereignty. In the last 20 years mass celebrations were held on December 16. Prior to the Independence Day the President traditionally awards outstanding citizens of the country: leaders of culture, art, sport, politics, etc. December 16 and 17 are official days off.
