Kazakhstan's State Secretary, acting secretary of Kazakhstan's Security Council Adilbek Dzhaksybekov has taken part in the meeting of the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) Security Council Secretaries in Moscow, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of Akorda.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Russia Marat Tazhin also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged their views on challenges and threats to regional security, measures to counter international terrorism and religious extremism as well as on cooperation in the field of international information security.

In his speech, Adilbek Dzhaksybekov focused on the measures taken by Kazakhstan’s competent authorities to combat terrorism, extremism and illicit drug trafficking.

He stressed that these threats could be actualized for Kazakhstan and Central Asia with the completion of withdrawal of foreign countries’ troops from Afghanistan. In this regard, he emphasized the importance of regular joint activities in accordance with the adopted policy documents of the CIS, CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization), SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization).

As for international information security, the sides expressed support to the joint efforts of the countries of the region on UN level to facilitate the process of establishing uniform international rules and regulations governing the activities of the countries in the information space.

During his visit to Moscow, Adilbek Dzhaksybekov met with Russian Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev. The parties discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation in security as well as exchanged their opinions on various current issues of the international agenda.

Another threat to the regional security comes from Islamic State terrorist organization, Nikolai Patrushev said. “Islamic State (IS) that now controls some parts of Iraq and Syria is becoming stronger. According to the preliminary data, 30-50 thousands are fighting within the ranks of IS. The force is great enough to undermine the international security,” he said.

He noted that supporters of IS were coming from the US, European Union and CIS countries. They are cruel people who had received good combat training.

Their return to their home countries poses a significant threat for the region, because they may continue their extremist activities. In this regard, CIS countries need to develop comprehensive measures to counter this danger, Nikolai Patrushev concluded.
