Brussels Burgomaster Freddy Tilemans wished Akim (Mayor) of Almaty Akhmetzhan Yessimov success in hosting the Winter Universiade-2017, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of Almaty Akim. Mayors of the two cities shared their experience in city management, development of transport systems, engineering and communications infrastructure and security. "We have already hosted the Asian Games in the beginning of 2011 and now we want to host the World Universiade. Almaty is located in the mountainous area and we have a good skiing resort. We have also constructed a ski-biathlon stadium and international ski jumping stadium for the Asian Games. Several tournaments, including a stage of the World Cup have been hosted there already. This ski jumping complex of the international level is one of top three best ski-jumps in the world. This winter we are hosting another stage of the World Cup,” Yessimov said. Brussels Burgomaster told about development of the Belgian capital, special features of its taxation, transport and communications system. “Your city have hosted the Asian Games highly sucessfully. I know that you have a developed sports infrastructure. I wish you success in hosting the Winter Universiade-2017,” Freddy Tilemans said. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that Almaty has no more competitors left in its bid to host the Winter Universiade-2017. Italian Trentino was also bidding to host the contest, but withdrew because of the economic situation. In October Tengrinews.kz English reported that International University Sport Federation's (FISU) Commission was satisfied with the preparations made by Almaty authorities for the Winter Universiade-2017. The commission visited the sports facilities and met with Kazakhstan Prime-Minister Karim Massimov who promised FISU that that if Kazakhstan wins the right to host the competition, it would be the best Universiade in the history of its existence.
