February 15-16 Astana will be hosting a sitting of the Kazakh-French Business Council, the country’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Altai Abibullayev announced February 13. According to him, the French delegation comprises reps of large French companies and public bodies. “The French side will be participating in the sitting to discuss prospects of the bilateral economic ties between the two countries and joint projects”, Mr. Abibullayev told a briefing, adding “following the sitting, they are expected to meet the country’s PM Karim Massimov”. In a separate statement Mr. Abinullayev announced that Thierry Mariani, French Minister of Transport, is to meet officials of the Kazakh Transport Ministry February 17 to further discuss launch of the direct flights from Astana to Paris”. According to him, “the visit is continuation of the agreements reached between the two nations during President Nazarbayev’s last year visit to France”, emphasizing that “Kazakhstan plans to further expand cooperation with France”.
