Alik Aidarbayev was appointed Akim (Governor) of Mangistau oblast, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of Kazakhstan Government. Alik Aidarbayev replaced Baurzhan Mukhamedzhanov in this position. In his turn, Mukhamedzhanov was released from his position and transferred to another job. Prime-Minister Serik Akhmetov introduced the new Akim at the session of the oblast Maslikhat (local executive body). Akhmetov read the President’s letter that suggested Alik Aidarbayev as a candidate for the position of the oblast Akim. The deputies supported the suggested candidate. “A lot has been done in the oblast in the last years, but there are still many tasks for the new leader of the oblast. Aidarbayev knows well about the region’s problems, has a good experience in working at managerial positions. I am sure that he will attach all the required efforts to improve the life of the citizens, develop the regional economy and solve the tasks set by the President,” Serik Akhmetov said. Alik Aidarbayev expressed gratitude to the President for his high trust. Prime-Minister also thanked the outgoing Akim Baurzhan Mukhamedzhanov for his work and noted that it was under his management that the President’s instructions on social-economic development, diversification of the economy, implementation of the program of development of single-industry cities and creation of new jobs were performed in the oblast. Aidarbayev was born on May 19, 1963 in Aleksandrovka village of Almaty oblast. In 1985 he graduated from the oil school of Kazakh Polytechnical Institute with a major in oilfields development. He started working in 1985, serving as operator, master, technologist and head of the shop in Zhetybaineft. In 1992-1994 he worked as head of the shop of formation pressure maintenance in Mangyshlakneft, an oil and gas producing subsidiary of Zhetybaineft. In different years he served as deputy Director General, first Vice-President of Yuzhkazneftegas, Director General of Kumkol-LUKOIL. On December 2009-April 2011 he works as Director General of Mangistaumunaigas. He then worked as Managing Director for Production in KazMunaiGas. He has PhD in Technical Sciences. He is an honorary professor of Kanysh Satpayev National Technical University. He is the author of the book called Theory and practice of development of Kumkol oil field (1999).
