Nursultan Nazarbayev has met with the newly formed A Block of career officials in Astana today. He reminded them that the A Block was not an elite club and the government officials were called to serve the people, Tengrinews reports. “You should always remember that the A Block is not some kind of an elite club, like some have started to call it. It is public service,” he emphasized and called the officials to care about people. “You should never forget that you are here to serve the people. You should not be indifferent to people. You should listen to them, answer their questions, talk to them, give them clear answers, solve their problems. (…) If the answer is no, tell them so; if it takes time, tell them so, don't send them from one government office to another,” the President instructed the members of the newly formed Block. He dwelt on bureaucracy when talking about problems of Kazakhstan’s civil service. "Last year Kazakhstan citizens submitted 22 million official documents to the state authorities (on requests of the state authorities). This is more then we have citizens in Kazakhstan. (…) Bureaucracy, here is one of the causes of the overtime except work schedules of the officials," he said. President Nazarbayev told the A Block that they were his team that he relied on and expected much from. “May I be frank, I am vesting a lot of hopes on you. You are part of my team that I will have to rely on. I believe that you will be behind the renewal of the whole state machinery and its qualitative improvement,” he said.
