Shanghai spirit becomes a symbol of new Eurasia: President Nazarbayev14 july 2015, 14:33
Shanghai spirit has become a symbol of new Eurasia, Tengrinews reports citing the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev as saying at the meeting with BRICS leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa and the Eurasian Economic Union leaders of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia held in Russian southwestern city of Ufa on July 9.
In his speech, Nazarbayev highlighted the importance of cooperation between regions. In particular, Nazarbayev believes that in light of the current events, the Eurasian Economic Union encompassing a single market of 176 million people becomes a key element in the revival of the Silk Road economy as a new stage in the development of synergistic cooperation between the East and the West.
“SCO process was a powerful tool in overcoming distrust. Shanghai spirit has become a symbol of new Eurasia over a short period. A close dialogue between the EEU and SCO creates favorable conditions for starting a broad transcontinental cooperation. Connecting horizontal transport artery of the EEU-SCO to vertical transport artery of BRICS can provide a huge trade growth. In the future, this can be regarded as a common union and common free zone on our territories," the Kazakh leader declared.
Nazarbayev also emphasized that active measures to develop and modernize the single transport-logistic space are being carried out as part of Kazakhstan’s large-scale infrastructure development project Nurly Zhol, which supplements Silk Road Economic Belt strategy initiated by China.
“Construction of the Western Europe – Western China highway section in our country as well as the railway linking China and the Caspian Sea and the railway corridor Kazakhstan - Turkmenistan - Iran - Persian Gulf contribute to making Central Asia a key part of the global communication system. These transport corridors are intended to link the Asia, Europe, the Caucasus and the Middle East. We believe that opening of Kazakhstan’s terminal in Lianyungang port of the Yellow Sea is an important achievement. Freight traffic volumes between the Asian-Pacific region and Kazakhstan have been increased by 80 percent since then,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
Nazarbayev also considers it important to tap into the possibility of coordinating joint measures to improve the investment financial climate within the frameworks of the Asian Infrastructure Investments Bank, Eurasian Development Bank and BRICS New Development Bank.
