According to the Secretary of the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan Bakhyt Meldeshov, the last polling station in Kazakhstan closed its doors at 9 p.m.

Counting of votes began. According to Kazakhstan’s Election Law the counting at the polling station is supposed to be completed within 12 hours after it commences.

“All the observers and experts have reported high voter turnout,” he said.

Vice-chairman of the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan Vladimir Foos told the journalists that the voter turnout made 95.11%.

“Almost in all the regions of Kazakhstan people started coming to the polling stations before their opening and the flow of voters remained steady throughout the day until the time the polling stations closed their doors. This was eyewitnessesed by the foreign and Kazakhstani observers who were present at the polling stations,” he said.

The April 26 presidential elections voter turnout region-wise was as follows:

Akmola Oblast – 96.91%
Aktobe Oblast – 96.36%
Almaty Oblast - 98.48 %
Atyrau Oblast – 97.75%
Eastern-Kazakhstan Oblast – 97.47%
Zhambyl Oblast – 97.31%
Western-Kazakhstan Oblast – 96.51%
Karaganda Oblast – 97.21%
Kyzylorda Oblast – 97.52%
Kostanai Oblast – 96.80%
Mangistau Oblast – 95.36%
Pavlodar Oblast – 96.35%
Northern-Kazakhstan Oblast – 97.71%
Southern-Kazakhstan Oblast – 97.78%
Astana – 94.51%
Almaty – 78.28%
