Nazarbayev warns of global social crisis

23 may 2013, 15:19
Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev sees signs of the global social crisis, Tengrinews.kz reports.

“Social condition of people is sharply deteriorating and global unemployment is growing. According to the International Labor Organization’s forecast, there will be over 200 million unemployed in the world this year. There was over 26 million unemployed in Europe in the beginning of this year, which is 1.5 times more than 6 years ago,” the President said at the Astana Economic Forum being held in Kazakhstan.

Many countries, he said, are currently cutting expenses on education, medicine and development of human potential. According to Nazarbayev, all these are clear signs of the looming global social crisis that threatens to lower life standards even in developed communities.

“According to Oxford experts, half of all the low-income people in the world live in G20 countries. 250 million people are forced to migrate in pursuit for a better life, which also causes many social problems,” he said.
