Tengrinews.kz – Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Estonian President Alar Karis held a one-on-one meeting in Astana as part of Karis’s state visit to Kazakhstan, citing Akorda.
Tokayev highlighted Estonia’s importance as a strategic partner and stressed the strong political foundation between the two countries.
“We have great respect for the history, traditions, and culture of the Estonian people. Our relations are steadily developing, and while there are some obstacles in mutual trade, progress is noticeable. We are very interested in gaining access to your seaports and boosting trade, as well as maintaining constructive cooperation in international organizations, especially within the UN and the UN Security Council,” the Kazakh president said.
He added that Karis’s visit would provide “a strong momentum” for bilateral cooperation, including cultural ties.

Karis, in turn, noted that relations between Estonia and Kazakhstan are already on a “very good level,” acknowledging existing challenges but expressing confidence they can be overcome.
“Sometimes we don’t even realize that the solutions are not that complicated. Our entrepreneurs are actively discussing joint projects. Several meetings are planned, and we expect to sign a number of memorandums and launch new initiatives,” the Estonian president said.
He also stressed the need for joint efforts in a turbulent geopolitical environment, adding that the UN remains a crucial institution that requires reform to reduce global conflicts.
President Karis was officially welcomed at Akorda on November 17. High-level talks are scheduled to continue over the next two days, focusing on expanding bilateral cooperation.
