Chief Imam of Almaty Central Mosque Kulmukhammad Makhanbet resigned from his post. Director of Zeket fund Yesmagambet Nurbek was appointed to this position, the mosque’s website Azan.kz writes. Makhanbet was appointed Naib Mufti and head of the Religious Affairs Department of the Spiritual Management of Muslims of Kazakhstan. He also heads Abu Hanifa school. Makhanbet started working in the position of chief Imam of Almaty Central Mosque in 2000. During this time, the Central Mosque became the main center for Islamic knowledge for the country’s Muslims. New chief Imam Yesmagambet Nurbek earlier worked as chief Imam of Atyrau oblast and Naib Imam of Almaty Central Mosque.
