Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held expanded-format negotiations in Astana, discussing the future of bilateral relations and new opportunities for strategic cooperation.
Tokayev emphasized the historic ties between the two nations, noting that Kazakhstan and Armenia have long been connected by “strong bonds of friendship and mutual respect.”
“Armenia is one of Kazakhstan’s key political and trade-economic partners in the South Caucasus. The Kazakh people hold deep respect for the Armenian nation, its ancient history, rich culture and traditions. Armenia has become one of the most popular travel destinations for Kazakh citizens this year. We also held significant events that brought our countries closer: Kazakhstan’s Days of Culture took place in Armenia for the first time, and a park dedicated to the great Kazakh poet Abai Kunanbayuly opened in Yerevan. We view this as a sincere gesture of respect toward our people,” Tokayev said.
The President stressed that Astana and Yerevan maintain an open and trust-based political dialogue at all levels and cooperate actively within regional and international structures. Bilateral ties, he added, continue to expand across trade, culture, education and science.
Tokayev also announced that a historic document will be signed today, formally elevating Kazakhstan–Armenia relations to the level of strategic partnership.
Pashinyan noted that his visit creates “strong opportunities for further deepening ties” between the two states.
“We consider Kazakhstan a very good example for our country. We respect the Kazakh people, and this respect forms the basis for advancing our bilateral relations. Today, the President of Kazakhstan and I discussed key areas for future cooperation. Considering regional developments, new opportunities are opening up in economic collaboration and transport connectivity. The potential in the transport sector should be fully realized to unlock additional prospects for both sides,” Pashinyan said.
During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed cooperation prospects across a broad range of areas, including trade, transit and transport, investment, natural resources, agriculture, digitalization and artificial intelligence, healthcare, and cultural and humanitarian ties.
Tokayev and Pashinyan also exchanged views on current regional and international issues.
