70% of voters in the oil-producing city of Zhanaozen in the West Kazakhstan gave their votes for the Nur Otan political party, President Nazarbayev announced when speaking at a political forum in Astana today.
“Some wanted to take advantage of the situation in Zhanaozen. But the residents of the town were convincing … 70% of the voters gave their votes for Nur Otan”, President Nazarbayev said, stressing that “people of Zhanaozen voted for stability”.
Commenting on the situation in Zhanaozen, Nazarbayev said that “common people were not responsible [for the public unrest following a long-lasting industrial action of fired oilmen]. “We are investigating who was responsible for what happened”, President said.
