A new Track-and-Field Athletics Center that will be constructed in Ust-Kamenogorsk will be named after Kazakhstan Olympic champion Olga Rypakova, Tengrinews.kz reports, referring to the Akim (Governor) of the East-Kazakhstan Oblast Berdybek Saparbayev. “I have been to Belgorod. I have seen the Sports Palace named after Svetlana Khorkina (Russian gymnast and seven-time Olympic medal winner). We are going to do the same: we will construct a new Track-and-Field Athletics Center and name it after Olga Rypakova,” Saparbayev said during the red carpet welcoming of Olympic champion Olga Rypakova at Ust-Kamenogorsk airport on Tuesday, August 7. According to the Governor of the region, the construction of the sports zone - including the Palace of Combat Sports and the Track-and-Field Athletics Center - has started recently in the city’s micro region on the left bank of the Irtysh River. The construction experts consulted the athlete at the stage of the project development and took into consideration all her requests regarding the future center. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that Olga Rypakova won Olympic gold medal in women’s triple jump with 14.98 meters. Ust-Kamenogorsk residents arranged a triumphant drive for Olga Rypakova along the streets in the Olympic champion’s native city of Ust-Kamenogorsk.
