Tengrinews.kz - A British hiker who got lost at an altitude of about 4 500 meters in the mountains of Peru has told how a stray dog "appeared from the fog" and helped him save himself.
The man was hiking the famous Santa Cruz circuit, near the city of Huaraz with a group. On the second day of the journey, he fell behind.
The hiker said that as soon as he found himself alone, a friendly dog suddenly approached him.
"I decided to trust his knowledge of the mountain," the Daily Mail quotes the man as saying.
The man said that he was surprised to see the dog at such an altitude and was amazed at how well she knew the routes in the mountains. Remarkably, the dog led him to a sign that showed the direction to the Punta Union pass. This is exactly where he needed to go.
The Englishman explained that when they reached the top together with the dog, they waited for the rest of the tourists to arrive. Interestingly, the stray animal stayed close to the group and continued the hike with them.
A local later explained to the British tourist that dogs in the area often follow hikers up the mountains as if they were trained guides.
