Popular destinations for in-migration in Kazakhstan

Kazakh Ministry of Labour named the regions most popular among internal migrants in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports citing the chairman of the Ministry's Migration Committee Salamat Amanbayev.

Over the past years there has been a stable internal migration net surplus in Almaty Oblast in southern Kazakhstan and in Mangistau Oblast in western Kazakhstan, and in two cities: Astana and Almaty. "There is a stable net outflow of in-migrants from rural areas," he admitted. But the outflow from rural areas stood only at 28000 people, which poses no alarming trend for Kazakhstan, the country with a population of 17 million people.
