Tengrinews.kz - Almaty Zoo set a new attendance record - the number of visits reached more than a million people, according to the press service of the Almaty akimat.
As noted in the press service, such a record is observed for the first time in 38 years. In 2024, the number of visitors was 1 097 236 people. Of the total number of visitors in 2024, 250 thousand people visited the zoo for free. This right is granted to children under 6 years old, children from orphanages and boarding schools, large and low-income families (at the request of district akimats), as well as pensioners and people with disabilities.
The city zoo is home to 3838 animals, which belong to 361 species. They are cared for by 223 employees. Ticket prices, by the way, remain affordable: adults pay 800 tenge, and children - 300 tenge.
The akimat (local government organization) noted that as part of the development of the zoo, modernization and reconstruction in accordance with international standards are planned. This year, a competition will be announced for the development of design and estimate documentation, and after the completion of all procedures, a phased reconstruction will begin, which will last until 2028.
