The deputies are concerned about shrinking population of Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports citing MP Gulnar Seitmaganbetova as saying at the meeting of the lower chamber of the parliament. She cited statistics data and warned of expected demographic recession. “The population shank 17.8 percent in North Kazakhstan oblast, 12 percent in Kostanai oblast, 10 percent in Akmolinskaya oblast, 8 percent in Pavlodar oblast, 4.9 percent in Karaganda oblast, 2.9 percent in West Kazakhstan oblast and 8.8 percent in East Kazakhstan oblast. All that information shows that population of our country is lowering catastrophically. Demographic recession is expected by 2015. We are very concerned about it,” Gulnar Seitmaganbetova said. The deputy noted that it is necessary to develop a national program that will promote demographic growth in the country. “This national program has to include the following: first of all we have to increase the status of families with over five children. We also have to allow families with four or more under-aged children to pay off only 50 percent of their loans. There are many families that need accommodation. We need to give benefits to single mothers raising children on their own and support young families,” Seitmaganbetova suggested.
